Tanzania: Tourist killed in tragic road accident. Bus hits her van, both vehicles burst into flames

A foreign Tourist was killed as a speeding van rammed into a speeding bus and both vehicles exploded into flames.

A lady tourist, whose nationality is yet to be divulged, was killed when the van which had just picked her from the Kilimanjaro International Airport got involved in a tragic accident.

She died a few minutes after arriving in Northern Tanzania on Saturday, the 8th of August 2026.

The van, a silver-colored Toyota Alphard Wagon with registration number, T837 EMS was reportedly traveling from Kilimanjaro International Airport, after picking two foreign tourists, a mother and her nine-year-old son, who were about to start their safari in Northern Tanzania.

Upon reaching at Kibaoni, the King’ori Division of Arumeru District, the van collided head-on with an oncoming bus, called Zugspitze Express, a Scania, with plate numbers T 639 AQN, which was speeding from Arusha City heading towards the Moshi, direction but whose destination was to be in Tanga.

After the deafening crash the bus burst into flames, while the smaller van suffered serious damage leading to the deaths of one tourist, while the young boy traveling with her was seriously injured.

The van driver was found trapped behind the cockpit, there have been unconfirmed reports that he also died later.

The Arusha Regional Police Commander, Justine Maseju confirmed the incident, adding that they have launched ‘investigations,’ over the accident.

Passengers who were riding on the bus, said the driver at the wheel was a novice who was actually being taught how to handle the large vehicle by another person.

“The learner driver was actually about to crash into the back of a truck which was in front of us and as he swung on the right to avoid hitting the lorry, the bus crashed into the oncoming van instead,” said a lady passenger who together with her small baby, managed to escape from the burning bus with minor injuries.

Several people were injured in the Saturday Morning accident.

Eye witnesses say both the bus and the van were at high speed during the time of the accident.

So far, both the van and the bus have totally been written off.

The passengers were rescued by members of the public who arrived at the scene of the accident promptly.

The entire bus shell was reduced to ashes; it was by sheer luck that none of the passengers aboard was killed in the raging fire.
