Petrol prices drop as Dangote Refinery cuts supply cost

Petrol prices have fallen across major depots in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Warri following a decline in international crude oil prices.

Lagos recorded the biggest reductions, where Dangote Refinery cut its petrol price from ₦1,350 to ₦1,325 per litre. Ascon, Integrated, Pinnacle and Sahara also reduced prices by ₦24 to between ₦1,326 and ₦1,327 per litre.

Other marketers also adjusted their prices, with some selling below ₦1,335 per litre. The cuts came as Brent crude traded below $100 per barrel, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate fell to $91.17 per barrel.

FG opens investigation into deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners

An independent committee has been inaugurated to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said the panel would establish the identities of the deceased and determine the immediate and underlying causes, as well as when and where they died.

The committee will also examine the circumstances surrounding their arrest and detention, assess the legality and conditions of the detention facility, and determine whether relevant laws, procedures and human rights standards were followed. Tunji-Ojo said the panel must remain independent and focused solely on finding the truth.

NCAA orders Air Peace to compensate passengers over delayed Lagos-Enugu flight

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed Air Peace to prepare compensation for passengers affected by a delayed Lagos-Enugu flight after a complaint from lawyer Inibehe Effiong.

Effiong said he arrived at Lagos airport at 5:50 am for the 6:45 am flight but was later told it had been delayed until 4:50 pm. He said the disruption caused him to miss a scheduled court appearance in Enugu and incur additional expenses.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu said the regulator contacted Air Peace, whose chief operating officer claimed passengers were notified. Effiong disputed this, saying he received no message about the rescheduling. The NCAA said it would investigate.

Ed Sheeran breaks down on stage amid tour crisis

Ed Sheeran became emotional during his September 19 concert in Philadelphia, taking the stage alone after several support acts and his backing band left his tour.

The crisis followed Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian comments, which led to his removal from the tour. Other performers, including Finneas and Beoga, withdrew in solidarity, leaving Sheeran scrambling to find replacements.

Speaking to about 50,000 fans, Sheeran said the situation had left him feeling abandoned by friends and family. He later apologised for bringing politics into a family concert, adding that the world felt frightening but the crowd gave him hope.

Charly Boy reveals why he linked Obasanjo with Isbae U

Nigerian singer and activist Charly Boy has explained why he connected former President Olusegun Obasanjo with content creator Isbae U for the YouTube show Curiosity Made Me Ask.

In a post on X, he said the interview showed how older people can create opportunities for younger ones by opening doors and supporting their work. Charly Boy said Obasanjo also embraced Isbae U’s different style and allowed viewers to see another side of him.

He urged older people to give young talents opportunities, while encouraging young people to prepare themselves when such chances arise. “Sometimes, the greatest thing you fit give a young person no be money. Na opportunity,” he wrote.
