TPDC allocates 22.06bn/-for CNG as its use  gains momentum

DODOMA: The use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the transport sector is gaining momentum as more Tanzanians embrace the fuel for its economic benefits, with one kilogram of CNG currently retailing at just 1,550/-.

Energy Ministry’s  geologist, Nuru Helambili made the remarks today, August 3, 2026, while providing information to visitors at the ministry’s pavilion during the ongoing Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition at the Dr. John Samuel Malecela Grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma.

Helambili said the use of CNG significantly reduces vehicle operating costs and forms part of the government’s broader efforts to promote clean, safe and affordable energy for the public.

She said the government, through the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), has allocated 22.06bn/- in the 2026/27 financial year for the construction of mobile Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling stations.

According to her, the project will see two mobile CNG stations established in Dar es Salaam, one in Morogoro and two in Dodoma, a move expected to improve access to CNG services and accelerate the adoption of the fuel in the transport sector.

Helambili added that the Ministry of Energy is using the Nane Nane Exhibition as a platform to educate the public about key government projects being implemented through the ministry and its institutions, with the aim of increasing awareness of investment opportunities, public services and ongoing developments in Tanzania’s energy sector.
