Trump Pardons Jay-Z’s Friend Emory Jones, Social Media Jumps To Conclusions
Jones, a close associate of Hov —and subject of 'Do U Wanna Ride '- got wrapped up in a federal case that found him pleading guilty to a cocaine distribution conspiracy in 1997, and in 2000 he was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

JAŸ-Z and President Donald Trump have long been each other’s opps, but they have now surprisingly intersected.
The rapper has always named his friends in his rap songs, from friends growing up in Brooklyn to the ones sitting around him in business meetings, and sometimes both.
One is Emory Jones, who has now been granted clemency by Trump and his White House Pardon Czar Alice Marie Johnson.
On Friday, Johnson announced on her Instagram that 30 ”deserving” people were pardoned, “whose cases we carefully reviewed and brought forward—and to the White House Counsel team, led by Will Scharf, for the hard work behind these decisions.”
However, Johnson singled out Jones in the post, saying he “served nearly 16 years in federal prison and came home determined to build a different life. Today he is an entrepreneur and creative leader whose journey reminds us how much people can grow—and how much good they can still do.”
She ended her IG caption, “My prayer is that each of these 30 people makes the most of this extraordinary second chance and becomes a greater blessing to their families, communities and the world.”

Eventually, he was released in 2016, and Hov name-dropped him on Magna Carta when he rapped, “welcome home to Emory.” He also referenced warmly welcoming his friend home on Everything Is Love‘s ‘Friends’ boasting, “Bought Emory a BM as soon as he came home.”
And as the pardon czar mentioned his entrepreneurship, Jay played a role in him capitalizing on his business acumen by making him the cofounder of the Roc Boys’ clothing line, Paper Planes, and Head of Lifestyle at Roc Nation.
Hov has been a staunch critic of Trump, dating back to 2018 when he called him a “super bug.” And with him mentioning how “MAGA Republicans” are his opps in his Yankee Stadium freestyle, he hasn’t warmed up to Trump or his cronies.
