The two Ugandan sides at the CAVB Men’s Club Championship, Nemostars and Sport-S, will start their campaign today.
Nemostars will take the court in the first game of the day at BK Arena as they battle Egyptian side Petrojet.
For Nemostars skipper George Aporu, the objective is to play quality volleyball that will ultimately see the team advance to the Round of 16.
“We will do our best to make sure we have a good display of volleyball,” George Aporu said. “The fact that we are here, we respect all our opponents, and they should do the same because we are all champions from our respective countries. We hope to get out of the group,” he added.
Godfrey Okumu, the Nemo head coach, is confident the team will advance.
“The way I see things, we have a very huge chance to qualify to the next round,” Okumu said of the draw
“We are not actually aiming for the top four but rather a top two. This is very important because a top-two finish will give us a slight chance to go to the semifinals, as you end up playing the third or fourth-placed teams of the other pools.”
Meanwhile, at Stade Petit, Sport-S will play their first-ever game at the African championship.
The back-to-back Nationals champions face Kenyan side Equity and Sport-S coach Malic Damulira is confident in his charges.
“We have prepared enough, the boys are ready, and we will play our best game that we have always played around here (Kigali),” said Sport-S coach, Malic Damulira.
