Vieux Fort workshop gives mothers hands-on support for breastfeeding

During Breastfeeding Awareness Month in Saint Lucia, mothers and expectant mothers in Vieux Fort received helpful information about breastfeeding. They got practical advice and support to help them feel more confident when feeding their babies.

The Vieux Fort Wellness Centre held a special Breastfeeding Workshop for women from the community and nearby areas.

This workshop is part of ongoing efforts to encourage breastfeeding and make sure mothers have the information and support they need, especially in the early stages of motherhood.

“The aim of the workshop is to provide information and also support for expectant mothers to enable them to initiate and maintain breastfeeding successfully, knowing all the wonderful benefits of breastfeeding,” Junette Joseph, a community health nurse at the Wellness Centre, said.

Participants also practised proper positioning and latching techniques, which are often challenging for new mothers. They also received educational materials and had the chance to ask questions and discuss common breastfeeding misconceptions.
