The Namibia Airports Company has acquired a N$16-million firefighting vehicle for Walvis Bay International Airport to enhance safety standards and boost regional aviation competitiveness.
The additional Rosenbauer Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle increases the airport’s firefighting fleet to three vehicles and maintains its airport rescue and firefighting category at level six.
The investment forms part of the airport’s company’s efforts to enhance aviation safety standards and position Namibia as a competitive aviation and logistics hub in southern Africa.
NAC spokesperson Dan Kamati confirmed this yesterday, adding that the state-of-the-art firefighting vehicle will improve the airport’s emergency response capability and ensure rapid response to aviation incidents in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation safety requirements.
“The development aligns with Namibia’s broader ambition to attract more international airlines and increase air connectivity.
Walvis Bay remains a strategic coastal gateway for tourism, cargo movement and trade, linking Namibia to international markets,” he said.
Kamati said modern rescue and firefighting equipment remains essential as global aviation safety regulations continue to evolve.
The upgraded rescue and firefighting capacity also allows larger aircraft to land at the airport while boosting confidence among international airlines and passengers.
By strengthening airport infrastructure, Kamati said it is creating a more attractive environment for passenger and cargo airlines while supporting economic growth and logistics development.
