A former aspirant for the Abeokuta North State Constituency seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Durojaiye Damilola Uthman, popularly known as Ẹni Afẹ Lamo, has distributed 300 pairs of school sandals to students in Gbágùrá Ward 6, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, while mobilising support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adéọlá, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Our correspondent reports that the distribution exercise, held on Wednesday, in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The event had in attendance students, parents, community leaders and political supporters as over 300 students benefited from the educational support initiative.
The distribution, according to the organisers, was aimed at supporting schoolchildren and reducing some of the financial burden on parents and guardians.
The organisers said the initiative forms part of Ẹni Afẹ Lamo’s grassroots interventions, with a focus on education, youth development and programmes targeted at improving the welfare of residents.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Gbágùrá Ward 6, Alhaji Shakirudeen Adenekan, commended the former Assembly aspirant for the gesture, describing the distribution of the school sandals as a laudable intervention for children and families in the community.
Adenekan appreciated Ẹni Afẹ Lamo for remembering the students and extending support to families at the grassroots, urging him to sustain initiatives that positively impact residents.
In his remarks, Hon. Uthman reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the younger generation, stressing that education remains an important foundation for personal development and the advancement of society.
He said the distribution of the sandals was part of his commitment to giving back to the community and supporting families, adding that more empowerment programmes would be organised for residents in the coming months.
Our correspondent also reports that the event also provided an avenue for grassroots mobilisation in support of Senator Yayi’s governorship aspiration ahead of the 2027 election.
Participants at the programme expressed support for the movement, as calls were made for continued mobilisation across communities in Abeokuta North and other parts of Ogun State.
Beneficiaries and community members expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the school sandals would help ease some of the expenses associated with preparing children for school.
