Kenya Trains 330 Young People in Digital Skills Through Huawei DigiTruck

Kenya has expanded digital literacy training in Keiyo South, with 330 young people completing a digital skills programme delivered through the Huawei DigiTruck.

The graduates were recognised at a ceremony in Nyaru, Keiyo South, attended by Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang, Huawei’s Adam Lane and Keiyo South Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo.

John Kipchumba Tanui, Principal Secretary in Kenya’s State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, said the programme reflects the importance of pairing expanding digital connectivity with skills that enable citizens to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.

The training was delivered through Huawei’s solar-powered DigiTruck, which brings digital learning directly to communities and provides practical, hands-on skills to people who may otherwise face barriers to accessing such training.

Tanui encouraged the graduates to build on the skills acquired by teaching others, pursuing more advanced digital capabilities and using technology to create opportunities rather than simply consume digital content.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to advance digital inclusion in Kenya as the government continues to expand connectivity through the National Digital Superhighway and last-mile fibre infrastructure.

Tanui also acknowledged Huawei Technologies through its TECH4ALL initiative and Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK) for their partnership in delivering the programme.

The event also recognised winners of the DigiTruck Innovation Competition. Representatives from the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, Konza Technopolis and the ICT Authority, alongside other government officials, were also present.

Tanui said the completion of the programme marks the beginning of a new phase for the graduates as they pursue further digital skills and opportunities within Kenya’s growing digital economy.
