DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Port has achieved a new milestone after handling 33.7 million tonnes of cargo in the 2025/26 financial year, marking a significant increase from 27.7 million tonnes recorded in the previous year.
This was revealed by the ports Director, Abed G. Abed when opening the third Joint Industrial Council (JIC) meeting of the port in Bagamoyo noting that the performance represents an increase of 6m tonnes.
The director attributed the record growth to improved efficiency and increased private sector participation in port operations while commending port employees for their contribution, saying the latest performance reflects the impact of reforms and strategic decisions taken by the government to improve port services.
According to Mr Abed, the increase exceeded expectations, noting that the target had initially been projected for achievement by 2030.
