Banak Street resident granted $3,000 bail after being charged for over 1 pound of weed

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 44-year-old Belize City construction worker has been charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply after police allegedly found 603 (1.3lbs) grams of marijuana.

Jeffery Kenrick Craig, a resident of Banak Street, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police allege that at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, officers were conducting an anti-drug operation in the Banak area when they saw a man throw a green plastic bag through the window of a wooden house and into a nearby yard.

Officers entered and searched the one-bedroom house but reportedly found nothing illegal inside. Craig was then escorted to the area where the bag had allegedly been thrown.

Police said the green bag contained five smaller plastic bags filled with a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis. The drugs were later weighed at 603 grams.

Craig was offered bail in the sum of $3,000, plus one surety of the same amount, which he met. He is scheduled to return to court on August 28, 2026.
