Saint Lucian speedster Julien Alfred opened her 2026 season with the fastest time in the world in the indoor women’s 60m. The 24-year-old from Ciceron clocked 7.04 seconds to win Heat 1 of her event at the Woo Pig Classic, hosted at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Saturday.

Originally announced in the lineup for last weekend’s Millrose Games, Alfred opted instead to get her season underway in Fayetteville. The University of Texas graduate had not competed since taking 100m bronze at the Tokyo World Championships last September, 146 days ago. Her last 60m run was far further back, 707 days ago, when she took gold at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

This year, the Olympic 100m champion has not only vowed to return to the World Indoor Championships, which will be held next month in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland. The second-fastest woman ever over 60m, Alfred has also taken aim at the world record, held by Russia’s Irina Privalova.

Before Saturday, the fastest woman indoors was 23-year-old Czech athlete, Karolína Maňasová, with a 7.05 run nearly three weeks ago. Jamaica’s Tia Clayton ran 7.02 at GC Foster College, but that performance was outdoors, with wind assistance.
