Armed robbers in US$78,000 , R500,000 hit at Mukuru outlet in Bulawayo

ARMED robbers pounced on a Mukuru outlet worker while she was pulling over at a parking lot, before force-marching her into her office, unlocking the safe and getting away with US$78,000 and R500,000.

Police confirmed the incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, saying preliminary investigations show that the gang targeted a female employee as she arrived for work at around 7am along Jason Moyo Street between 8th and 9th Avenue.

“The suspects forcibly escorted her into the offices and ordered her to open the strong room and a Chubb safe,” national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said.

The victim complied and gave the suspects access to the safe containing US$78,141 and R501,820.

To cover their tracks, the assailants went on to strip the company’s Digital Video Recorder (DVR), which stores surveillance footage and a panic button, before fleeing.
