It’s been more than a month since Ayesha Curry’s appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. Although that is generally a lifetime ago in the age of social media, the video is still generating plenty of online chatter, sparking a debate between people who are zooming in on a comment Curry made about how she envisioned her life before she married NBA superstar Stephen Curry.
In case you haven’t seen the clip, Curry told host Alex Cooper that marriage wasn’t always on her radar and that she didn’t always want kids and originally saw herself as a “career girl.”
“After we got married, we found out we were pregnant with our daughters so quickly, I didn’t even have time to think about what I wanted anymore. It’s so interesting. I spent my entire life trying to work towards something, and then it kind of just disappeared and I didn’t think twice about it,” she said.
Some online were not feeling Ms. Curry’s comments, accusing her of being ungrateful of a life they believe is pretty charmed.
“Ayesha curry could easily divorce steph and go do all that hoopla she was whining about but i digress,” wrote someone on X.
Another user wrote they believed Curry’s comments are a sign that there could trouble in paradise.
“Ayesha Curry straight up admitting Steph Curry isn’t enough? That’s a divorce waiting to happen. SMH, some things you just can’t unsee,” wrote someone else on X.
But all of the noise on social media led some to go back and check out the entire interview to help put Curry’s comments into context, and many admitted that the mom-wife-entrepreneur’s comments were taken out of context.
“Absolutely love Ayesha ! I hate when press takes things out of context. I think any girl can get what she went through and what she feels like . We have all been there . Good on her for speaking and putting herself out there,” wrote someone on YouTube.
Another viewer apologized for speaking out on social media without watching the whole clip for themselves.
“I made a few comments on some video clips of this interview and decided to delete them and come watch the full video for proper context before responding. So glad I did. Those clips were taken out of context,” wrote someone on YouTube.
Curry even got words of support from journalist Jemele Hill, who said she’s not saying anything most wives and mothers have thought at some point in their lives.
“There are definitely some women who as little girls who dream about having a family, like that’s really important to them, and I don’t knock them for thinking like that,” she said in an October 4 livestream. “There is nothing wrong with Aisha Curry. If you have a five minute conversation with any woman who has kids, they will literally tell you the same thing.”
