The Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile, has described the passing of legendary musician and artist, Babsy Mlangeni as a profound loss to South Africa’s creative and cultural industries.

Mlangeni died on Thursday at the age of 83 following a short illness.
Maile says the country has lost not only a gifted musician but an artist whose voice and music became part of the soundtrack of the lives of generations of South Africans.
“His music transcended generations, languages and communities and remains an important part of our musical heritage. His legacy will live on through his music, the artists he inspired and the generations to continue to discover his work. May his soul rest in peace.”
