DODOMA: TANZANIA’S Parliamentary Budget Committee has said it has identified concerns regarding the government’s expenditure-cutting measures outlined in the 2026/27 national budget, noting that many of the proposals are similar to those presented in previous years and that some have not been fully implemented.
Speaking in Parliament in Dodoma today, June 15, 2026, Committee Chairperson Mashimba Ndaki said the committee’s analysis of the budget had revealed implementation challenges affecting several of the proposed measures.
Ndaki stated that the committee had also found that some initiatives presented as part of the government’s cost-saving strategy do not directly target the reduction of unnecessary expenditure, potentially limiting their effectiveness.
The committee’s observations come five days after the government presented its Sh62.3 trillion budget for the 2026/27 fiscal year.

In the budget, the government announced plans to continue digital transformation initiatives in public service delivery while also reducing spending on domestic and international travel. It further proposed cutting costs associated with seminars, workshops, and conferences as part of broader efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline in the management of public funds.
The committee chairperson said members conducted an analysis of Paragraph 67 of the budget speech, which outlines the government’s commitment to managing public expenditure and implementing cost-control measures.
Following the review, the committee concluded that many of the proposed measures have been repeatedly included in previous budgets, while some continue to face significant implementation challenges.
The committee has urged the government to ensure that the proposed measures are supported by robust implementation and monitoring mechanisms to achieve the intended outcomes in public expenditure management and fiscal efficiency.
