Babylowsk1 Reveals He Enjoys Collaborating With Producers Far More Than Artists. Rising South African rapper Babylowsk1 sat down with YFM Roiii and DJ Sliqe and delivered a candid take on the realities of collaboration in the music industry.

When asked about his current relationship with collabs, the young rapper was quick to draw a clear line between the producers he enjoys working with and many artists he finds more challenging.
“I love working with producers, but not too many artists. Producers more than artists,” Babylowsk1 explained. “I don’t know, some artists are very picky. Some of them don’t like getting out of their comfort zone, eh? It’s the same thing every day. Yeah, so it’s like, I’m kinda forced to make what you want me to make.”
The conversation turned to whether age plays a role in these dynamics. Roiii pressed further, inquiring if it feels harder to collaborate with peers his own age or with older artists. Babylowsk1 did not hesitate in his reply.
“Nah, my age is worse,” he said. “Yeah, it’s the same thing every day. Most of them 808, much melody, yeah… Over productions.”
Beyond the critique, Babylowsk1’s perspective comes at a pivotal moment in his career. The rapper recently released a project, Beleedat, that has begun shaping his artistic identity and elevating his presence within South African hip-hop. The body of work not only showcased his versatility but also reinforced his preference for producer-led collaborations, with cohesive soundscapes that allowed him to experiment more freely.
The project has been instrumental in expanding his audience, earning him recognition for his distinct approach and willingness to step outside conventional sonic trends. It has also positioned him as part of a new wave of artists challenging the formulaic nature of mainstream hip-hop, even as he calls out the very patterns he believes are holding his peers back.
