Bail denied for Manuel De Jesus Flores, accused of sexually assaulting 10-year-old girl

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A resident of the Lords Bank area, Ladyville, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Monday morning after appearing in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on sexual assault charges involving a 10-year-old minor.

Manuel De Jesus Flores appeared in Court #5 before a Senior Magistrate to answer to two counts of sexual assault. Allegations are that on July 18, 2026, Flores intentionally and unlawfully touched the female minor, who is 10 years and 5 months old, without her consent.

Court details reveal that Flores allegedly pressed his body against the child before grabbing her with his right hand, pulling down her blouse, and touching her breast.

Flores was represented by attorney Sharon Pitts-Robateau, who submitted a strong application for bail. Pitts-Robateau argued that her client is gainfully employed as a mason and emphasized that he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty, as the charges against him are currently allegations. She argued that the functional purpose of bail is to ensure a defendant’s attendance in court, which could be managed through strictly enforced court conditions.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Ayala vigorously objected to bail, urging the court to consider the extreme vulnerability of the young victim, the serious nature and prevalence of sexual offenses, and the risk that Flores might reoffend or interfere with the victim or the ongoing police investigation, given that the alleged incident took place at around 12:30 a.m.

After weighing submissions from both the defense and prosecution, the sitting Senior Magistrate denied bail due to the severity of the charges. Flores has been remanded to prison until his next court appearance scheduled for September 17, 2026.
