Brockwell Lido in 1995: view this fascinating BBC documentary

The BBC Archive has posted up an archive  45 minute documentary about Brockwell Lido, filmed in 1995.

You can view it full below, but please note it comes with the warning, “This documentary contains racist and offensive terms, as well as some nudity.”

They add:

“Every kind of person, the whole spectrum of life comes here.”

 

The Brockwell Park Lido in south London is a real melting pot. Here young and old, black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor congregate, to swim together and enjoy the long hot summer of 1995.

Squatted in 1995

In the early 90s, Lambeth Council closed the Lido to save costs, which led to it being squatted and being used for parties, raves and even an event by the south London-based Exploding Cinema collective. Read the full story here.
