CAPS United has broken a 10-match winless record at Barbourfields against Highlanders after recording a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon.
The last time CAPS United won at Barbourfields was in 2015, and it has taken them years to walk away with maximum points against their old rivals.
Makepekepe’s win was enabled by Nyasha Chigwida and Lloyd Njaliwa, who scored in the 36th and 65th minutes, respectively, to earn the much-needed victory .
Sunday’s defeat was the first this season for Highlanders, who had gone for eight games without a defeat.
CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi has now stretched its lead at the top by four points, as it is now on 22 points, while second-place occupiers Hardrock are on 18.
For Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari, Sunday’s defeat will raise a lot of questions, considering that it came at the back of his first win of the season against Chicken Inn Wednesday last week.
