By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Caribbean Sugar Refinery says its new sugar refinery in Belize remains on schedule, with production of its first refined sugar targeted for the third quarter of 2026.
The company says full commissioning of the facility is anticipated during the fourth quarter of the year.
As the refinery moves toward full operations, waivers allowing refined white sugar imports will remain in effect until April 1, 2027.
According to Caribbean Sugar Refinery, the transition period was developed in collaboration with future buyers and the CARICOM Private Sector Organization. It is intended to give commercial customers time to adjust their procurement arrangements while the company completes commissioning, product quality certifications and regional distribution channels.
During the transition, the refinery will process raw sugar feedstock while expanding its distribution network across the Caribbean.
A new sugarcane crop cycle expected to begin by March 1, 2027, is also anticipated to strengthen regional sugar supplies.
Caribbean Sugar Refinery says the Belize facility is intended to do more than provide another source of refined white sugar. The company believes regional production can strengthen trade among CARICOM countries, improve supply stability for manufacturers and reduce dependence on suppliers from outside the region.
The company also expects the investment to contribute to employment, investment and more resilient regional supply chains.
