*Dalton Eatherly, the racist internet personality known online as “Chud the Builder,” could spend decades in prison after authorities charged him in connection with a shooting outside a Tennessee courthouse.
The 28-year-old appeared in court on May 15 for an arraignment and bond hearing after investigators accused him of shooting another man during an altercation outside the Montgomery County Courthouse following a verbal dispute.
Eatherly now faces several felony charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and employing a firearm during a dangerous felony. During the hearing, Judge Reid Poland III reportedly noted the seriousness of the accusations and the number of people present near the courthouse when the shooting occurred.

According to court proceedings, attempted criminal homicide in Tennessee can carry a prison sentence ranging from 15 to 60 years, PEOPLE reports. The judge ultimately set Eatherly’s bond at $1.25 million.
Investigators allege surveillance footage captured Eatherly turning toward the other man “in a bladed stance” before reaching into his jacket pocket for a firearm. Authorities claim the situation became physical only after the weapon was drawn.
The alleged victim, Joshua Fox, was identified as a 31-year-old Black disabled Army veteran. Officials say Fox suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is reportedly in stable condition while continuing his recovery.
According to reports, Eatherly livestreamed the May 13 confrontation and later claimed he fired only after being physically attacked. Authorities, however, dispute that version of events based on surveillance video reviewed during the investigation.
Eatherly has drawn widespread criticism online for livestream videos featuring racist remarks and confrontations targeting Black pedestrians. Videos circulating online allegedly show him using racial slurs and inflammatory language in public settings.
His attorney, Jacob Fendley, addressed the backlash surrounding the case in a public statement, saying, “This entire case is disturbing. Racism is a terrible thing and it’s a flawed method of thinking.”
Eatherly remains in custody at Montgomery County Jail. A bond hearing is scheduled for May 21, with a preliminary court hearing expected on May 26.
