Police have charged a man in connection with a shooting on Marchand Road on May 9 that claimed the lives of two people.

A statement from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force on Monday said 29-year-old Seth Shem John was arrested last Tuesday, three days after the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder in relation to the deaths of 34-year-old Sheston Duncan, also known as “Bolom” of Black Mallet, Marchand, and 64-year-old Pearl Ramsay of Marchand.

John appeared before the First District Court last Friday and was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.

About 11 p.m. on May 9, officers attached to the Marchand Police Station responded to reports of a shooting in the area.

Initial reports indicated that two people sustained gunshot wounds. Ramsay was pronounced dead at the scene.

Duncan was transported to the Owen King European Hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
