The look on their faces is everything. Even the smallest gestures of kindness bring joy where it’s needed most.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (18 May 2026) – It’s always the little things.
The Elders Voice KZN is a Durban-based NPO that fights for the rights of the aged, keeping community care homes running and making sure vulnerable senior citizens can live out their years with dignity and hope.
Recently, the team showed some love for the seniors by handing out chocolates. What may seem sweet but small and insignificant to us, brought a world of joy to the elderly who have very little.
Aged care can be isolating and some residents often go days without a meaningful interaction beyond routine care. So a choccie isn’t a small thing when your day has limited novelty. It tells a granny or grandpa that someone thought of them. That means everything at a stage of life where you can feel invisible.
The video made our team smile from ear to ear.
It resets something in you too. Their joy is a pure reminder that small acts of care between people is really what life is all about. Good deeds. We just forget that until we see it reflected back so honestly.
These are people who gave a lifetime to their families and communities. They deserve so much more than to feel forgotten.
“That a simple chocolate could make such a difference…[we] absolutely love what [we] do, even through the hardships there is light…We as humans take so much for granted!” shared the NPO.
