On a day meant to celebrate herself, Mishqah chose instead to pour love into others, spending her birthday bringing sweetness, comfort and joy to the nurses and carers at The Zoe Project.
Cape Town, South Africa (17 May 2026) – Most of us, if not all of us, love a good birthday. One usually spends time with the people we love, doing the things that fill our cups and bring us joy.
Mishqah could have spent her birthday doing anything that served only her, but instead, she chose to spend it with nurses and carers at The Zoe Project.

The Zoe Project is a non-profit organisation that provides safe maternal healthcare, counselling and empowerment programmes so that women and babies in under-resourced communities can experience dignity, hope and a future.
Mishqah’s mother, Tariqua, is one of the women currently at the Project’s retreat. So, when Mishqah’s trip around the sun came full circle, she chose not to celebrate herself, but to spend part of her day alongside her mom at Retreat, sharing joy with others.
“At Retreat, we witnessed a beautiful act of kindness from a young girl, Mishqah, with a very special heart. She arrived with cakes and sweets for the staff, making sure everyone felt included in her celebration. In a place where many new moms are walking through vulnerable and challenging moments, this simple act of generosity brought smiles, warmth, and love into the day,” the organisation said.
At the heart of the Zoe Project’s mission is to positively impact the lives of moms and their families as they navigate the journey of childbirth.
Their programmes, such as Antenatal Classes, Birth Companion, Preemie and Sick Babies, Nursing Assistance, and Bereavement Support, are designed to provide comfort, care, and empowering experiences for those who need them most. Each part of what they do is a crucial step towards building stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities.
Soaking in the goodness shared by Mishqah on her special day, the staff extended their heartfelt gratitude to her for reminding them that kindness has no age limit and for a gesture that left them feeling compassion, generosity, and love in action.
