Clifton’s lifeguards continue their dominance at the 2026 SA Champs, taking the Junior and Senior Grand Aggregate titles.

Clifton, South Africa (09 April 2026) – Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club has done it again! The club proudly defended its Grand Aggregate Title by combining Junior and Senior Pool and Surf results at the 2026 South African Championships.

The team shared, “At Clifton we don’t compete to win titles, we focus on competing to become better lifeguards and servant leaders.” And in 2026, they certainly lived up to that promise.

With 1,599.5 points, Clifton finished well ahead of the second-placed club on 1,208 points, once again proving the strength, skill, and dedication of its athletes.

In pool events alone, Clifton amassed 836.5 points, leaving the next club behind on 359 points, while in surf, they came in second with 763 points, just behind a strong performance from Fish Hoek, who claimed the top spot with 998 points. But when the results were combined across all categories, Clifton’s lifeguards showed their dominance, securing the coveted Grand Aggregate for both Juniors and Seniors.

This victory marks the fourth overall Youth and Open Title (Pool + Surf) for Clifton in just five Championships contested. From the Surf-only win in 2021, to third place in 2022, champions again in 2023, a cancelled event in 2024, champions in 2025, and now champions in 2026. Now this is a remarkable track record and a testament to the club’s consistency and commitment.

Despite the title being officially acknowledged online rather than at the formal prize-giving for the second year in a row, the club remains unfazed. Clifton’s focus has never been just about trophies. The priority has always been on developing athletes into better lifeguards and servant leaders. Their mantra for the Championships was simple: “be better” in every aspect of life in and out of the water, and that goal has been thoroughly accomplished.

The club extends heartfelt thanks to its athletes, coaches, managers, parents, supporters, and committee members, whose efforts, support, and dedication make these achievements possible.

With a bit of downtime ahead, the team is already looking forward to the next season, ready to keep raising the bar and living up to the Clifton standard of excellence.
