Following our report early this morning about the shooting incident on Coldharbour Lane, the Met Police have released a statement:

Four people have been taken to hospital after a shooting in Brixton.
The Metropolitan Police was called just after 1.10am today (May 2) to Coldharbour Lane following reports of a firearm discharge.
Officers, including specialist crime officers, attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, where they found four people with gunshot wounds.
A 25-year-old man remains in life-threatening condition.
Three other people, aged 21, 47, and 70, were also taken to hospital where their injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening.

Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said:
“We understand how concerning this incident will be for the local community and want to reassure residents that officers are working at pace to identify those responsible.
“This was an act of indiscriminate violence, and we will work relentlessly to bring the suspects to justice.
“It is vital that anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information that could assist the investigation, comes forward.
“Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. If you have any concerns, please speak to officers.”

Residents of Southwyck House (Barrier Block) were left to clear up a considerable mess in the morning, including this huge pile of discarded nitrous cannisters.
Coldharbour Lane remains closed between the junctions with Somerleyton Road and Moorland Road with police forensic teams in attendance.
