Tebogo Letsie has criticised Oupa Nkoane for unilaterally approving his R3 million salary.
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training, Tebogo Letsie has criticised the administrator appointed to address governance and administrative challenges in the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA).
Letsie criticised Oupa Nkoane for unilaterally approving his own salary of R3 million without authorisation from the department or Minister.
This comes after the committee received a briefing from the CETA regarding the protected disclosure allegations of irregularities at the entity.
Letsie has described the revelations as shocking, adding that the committee wants salaries of administrators to be regulated.
“The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training is shocked by the revelations that the administrator appointed to address the governance and administrative challenges at the CETA unilaterally determined and approved his own salary package of R3 million without the authorisation from the Department of Higher Education or the Minister. The committee received the briefing on the protected disclosure allegations on irregularities at the entity including the Vodacom intercontact which continued beyond its expiry date. Various committee members were concerned that salaries paid to administrators and the advisors to stabilise the struggling entities are not regulated clearly. “
