‘Even in defeat’: Lyle Foster praised over Christian stance

Bafana Bafana player Lyle Foster has been praised for publicly showing his Christian faith on a world stage. The South African, who plays as a centre-forward, is part of the FIFA World Cup squad, which will face Czechia and South Korea in its next games.

BAFANA BAFANA PLAYER LYLE FOSTER PRAISED OVER CHRISTIAN STANCE

In an Instagram post, Bafana Bafana player Lyle Foster was seen taking a stance reflecting his Christian faith during South Africa’s match against Mexico on Thursday.

The post was made by the US Christian sportswear brand Ballers In God, which started the social media campaign called “The King’s Return”.

In the pic, Lyle – who wears white socks that feature a cross on them – is seen bending on his knees as he lifts his hands in prayer.

The account captioned the image: “Even in defeat, South Africa’s @lyle.foster17 became the first player to publicly take part in The King’s Return, casting his crown at His feet and kneeling in prayer at the centre circle. Because football can bring trophies, recognition and influence. But every crown belongs to the King”.

In the comments, the South African player was praised for his humility and integrity.

The account also posted images of Bafana Bafana engaging in a prayer session during their World Cup appearance

It added: “After suffering defeat, the players of South Africa gathered together in prayer during training. Just a team acknowledging that even when results don’t go your way, God is still worthy”.

‘GLORY TO GOD’

Lyle Foster, who plays for the UK club Burnley, is known for talking about his Christian faith.

The Bafana player, who admitted to suffering from mental health issues back in 2023, often references God in his media interviews.

In a FIFA special feature, Lyle spoke about his ambitions going into the FIFA World Cup.

He said: “God willing, after so much fight and so much sacrifice, this will be a moment to not just show the world who I am, but also just to enjoy it and appreciate the moment of how far we’ve come”.
