Fatal stabbing in Castries marks third homicide for 2026

A 25-year-old man from Soufrière is the victim in what police have confirmed is the third homicide recorded in Saint Lucia for 2026.

Leeval Albert died after sustaining stab wounds during an altercation in Castries today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Luke Defreitas confirmed. 

During the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s monthly press conference today, ACP Defreitas said investigations are ongoing to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the attack.

According to initial reports, after being injured, Albert made his way to the Jeremie Street Plaza and eventually collapsed. Emergency medical personnel were summoned to the scene and transported him to a medical facility. Despite their efforts, Albert was later pronounced dead.

ACP Defreitas explained that while emergency responders encountered the victim near the DAX area on Victoria Street, investigators are still working to establish where the stabbing actually took place.

No further details were provided regarding possible suspects or motives at the time of the press briefing. Police have not yet confirmed whether anyone is in custody in connection with the incident.
