(AURN News) — Pioneering celebrity journalist and longtime columnist Florence “Flo” Anthony has died at age 74 after battling cancer, according to the New York Amsterdam News.
Anthony, whose “Go With the Flo” column became a staple of the newspaper in 2001, shattered barriers throughout her career, becoming the first African American to work in the famed Page Six department at the New York Post and the first Black woman to write a column for a supermarket tabloid.
A Howard University graduate, she built a multifaceted career spanning print, television, radio, publishing and publicity, representing boxing legends before becoming one of the nation’s most recognizable entertainment journalists.
Anthony also authored four novels and appeared regularly on networks including CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, TV One and E!.
