Delivery Driver Pauses His Shift to Save a Stranded Mother and Son

When a mother and son found themselves stranded with a flat tyre in the Outer West Durban area, help didn’t come from a tow truck – it came from a selfless hero in a teal uniform on a scooter!

Shongweni, South Africa (11 May 2026) – When a mother and her son found themselves stranded on the side of the road thanks to an ill-timed puncture, help arrived from the most unexpected place.

It wasn’t a mechanic or roadside assistance that came to the rescue, but a Checkers Sixty60 driver!

While out making his grocery delivery rounds over the weekend, the driver spotted the family in distress and pulled over to lend a hand.

The scene offered a heartwarming moment of humility for Chrystal Austin and her husband, who happened to be driving past Westown Mall at the time. Inspired by the selfless act, Chrystal shared the story online, noting:

“We passed a scene that just brightened my day and lifted my soul.”

“Kneeling on the tar, tools in hand, we saw Henry Nojiyeza, a Checkers Sixty/60 driver, helping a mother and her son change a tyre. We turned back to commend him for such a good deed that revealed this man’s good character.”

She went on to commend how Henry went out of his way to help a mother in a likely stressful situation, even if it cost him a delivery trip or two and potential income.

“In this moment, he saw another person in need, set his own needs aside, and simply helped. He did not expect or ask for anything in return and humbly accepted their gratitude and went on his way. We need more people like Henry, and we need to be more like Henry.”

And South Africans across the internet couldn’t agree more, flooding the post with praise and appreciation for Henry’s helpfulness and incredible act of kindness.

“Well done to you, Henry. You make us believe a little that good people do exist out there,” one person commented.

While another beautifully shared:

“Well done, Henry. You brought tears to my eyes with your act of kindness. Abundance will come your way when you least expect it, my friend. Go well.”

A huge shout out to Henry for recognising the need of another and lending a helping hand, not for recognition or because he had to, but because he simply cared enough to. You’re an inspiration to us all!
