GBIMC unveils roadmap for June 4 Elective Congress

The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has announced that elections to choose a substantive Executive Board for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) will be held on Thursday, June 4, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The highly anticipated Extraordinary Congress, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., will see delegates elect new leaders to take over from the GBIMC.

The elections would be held in accordance with Articles 4.6, 7.4 and 7.8 of the GBA Constitution and the committee’s election roadmap.

This was contained in a statement issued by the GBIMC, announcing positions to be contested for as presidency, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, and four Executive Board Members.

According to the notice, nomination forms for interested candidates would be available from Thursday, while final submissions are expected by Tuesday, May 19.

Candidates are required to submit duly completed nomination forms endorsed by proposers and seconders, alongside four passport-size photographs, prescribed fees, and a brief statement revealing their qualifications and background.

The official list of approved candidates is expected to be published between May 22-23.

The committee further emphasised that only members and associations in good standing, fully registered, licensed and not indebted to the authority would be eligible to vote during the congress.

It mentioned that delegates must also be duly nominated and submitted to the GBIMC Secretariat by May 19.

In a related development, the GBIMC has announced the second part of its nationwide health screening exercise for all licensed boxers in Ghana.

The exercise, organised in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR) and the National Sports Authority (NSA), would take place on May 27 and 28, 2026.

The medical screening, it said, will begin at the James Town Police Station from 8 a.m each day for boxers to be transported to the Lapaz Community Hospital for examination.

Registration for the exercise is scheduled to commence on May 25 at the James Town Police Station between 10 a.m and 4 p.m daily.

According to the GBIMC, buses will be provided for the comfort of boxers while all medical tests will be fully sponsored.

The exercise forms part of the committee’s initiative to develop a comprehensive database for all active boxers before handing over administration to the newly elected GBA Executive Board.

The committee stated that participation in the screening was mandatory for all active boxers as part of measures to ensure athlete safety, longevity and professionalism within the sport.

Boxers have been asked to report with a valid identification card and their GBA license cards.
