Gondwana Waiters Serve Up Qualified Success

A significant milestone for skills recognition and career development was marked in March, as the Namibia Training Authority rolled out recognition of prior learning assessments across Gondwana Collection Namibia.

Experienced waiters in the tourism and hospitality industry stepped forward to have their practical knowledge formally assessed against national benchmarks, exhibiting their competencies through intensive practical and theoretical assessments, with the aim of achieving nationally recognised qualifications under the Namibia Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Coordinated by the Namibia Training Authority, the project covered multiple regions. It is a large-scale coordination that ensured consistency in assessment quality while securing an accessible process to candidates at their workplaces.

A broad range of qualifications were assessed, with a focal point on vocational certificates in tourism and hospitality disciplines.

This comprises commercial cookery, food and beverage services, front of house operations, housekeeping, local and national guiding – all targeted towards level 3 and level 4 qualifications accredited by the NQF.

Beyond certification, the recognised qualifications are a doorway for individuals to pursue further studies and be more competent.

Through the evaluations, skills gaps can be identified and addressed through targeted assignments or progressive training, ultimately preparing individuals for meaningful upskilling and reinforcing leadership capacity.

While the journey requires patience, preparation and commitment, the outcomes are deeply rewarding, and new success stories continue to emerge at Gondwana Collection Namibia.
