Ice Cube Reunites With Nia Long For “Are They Gone Yet?” Sequel

Ice Cube is bringing back one of his most beloved franchises after two decades away from the screen.

The third installment of the “Are We There Yet?” series is officially in development at Skydance Sports, reuniting him with co-star Nia Long for what’s being called “Are They Gone Yet?”

The new film will follow Nick as he navigates his biggest challenge yet: dealing with grandkids instead of just kids.

The original 2005 film and its 2007 sequel combined to gross over $156 million dollars worldwide, making the franchise one of Ice Cube’s most commercially successful ventures.

According to Deadline, the script is being written by Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana, with production handled by Broken Road and CubeVision.

Ice Cube’s own production company is taking the lead on bringing this story to a new generation of audiences.

“We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies,” Ice Cube said about the project. “Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership.”

This move comes as Ice Cube continues to expand his acting slate across multiple projects.

He’s currently in talks to return for “24 Jump Street” alongside Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, marking a third installment in that comedy franchise.

Beyond that, he’s working on “Last Friday,” the long-awaited fourth film in the “Friday” series with Mike Epps and Chris Tucker in talks to return.

His recent Amazon Prime Video film “War of the Worlds” with Eva Longoria showed he’s willing to take on different genres and platforms.
