IFP sacks KwaZulu-Natal councillor over extortion allegations

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has sacked a KwaZulu-Natal councillor from the party over allegations of extortion and a money scam.

The party says Sipho ‘ES’ Mbatha, who served as a PR councillor in the King Cetshawayo District Municipality, has been expelled and removed from his position in the municipality.

National Spokesperson Mkuleko Hlengwa says the national council received various allegations that Mbatha extorted money from individuals.

This after he made claims that he was acting on behalf of the IFP.

“At a special council of the national Council held on Monday 4 May 26, it was unanimously resolved that Mr Mbatha be expelled from the party and consequently removed as an IFP PR counsellor in the King Cetshwayo Municipality. Members of the public are hereby warned against the alleged scamming and extortion activities associated with Mr Mbatha. Any such activities with the past or present were not and are not sanctioned by the party.”
