Zimbabwe has officially launched the long-acting HIV prevention jab lenacapavir.

The official rollout happened Thursday in Harare, Epworth and the drug is expected to be available in hospitals across the country.

Zimbabwe has become one of the first countries globally to introduce the twice-yearly injectable drug, developed by Gilead Sciences, targeting over 46,000 people at high risk.

Authorities say the programme marks a major step in the country’s efforts to curb new HIV infections and end AIDS as a public health threat.
