(AURN News) — Folks have lots of plans for the Fourth of July weekend, and for many that includes firing up the grill for friends and family. But no matter what’s on the menu, one thing will likely be the same for everyone — paying higher prices.
A new report from the American Farm Bureau Federation says a classic Fourth of July cookout for 10 people will cost an average of $73.82 this year, or about $7.38 per person. That’s up 4% from last year and the highest amount the organization has recorded since it began tracking cookout costs in 2013.
The menu includes pork chops, cheeseburgers, chicken breasts, potato chips, pork and beans, fresh strawberries, potato salad, fresh-squeezed lemonade, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.
“Two pounds of ground beef increased 73 cents from last year to $14.06, a 5.5% increase and the highest beef price recorded in this survey,” the report said.
For families already dealing with higher grocery bills, the annual cookout remains another reminder that inflation continues to make holiday traditions more expensive.
