Residents who are in debt with the Keetmanshoop municipality is set to have their water supply disconnected on Wednesday.

Disconnections are planned to commence at 10h00.

This is contained in a notice dated 13 March, in which the municipality is urging residents to settle their bills.

“All consumers with balances older than 31 January are reminded to settle their bills,” the notice reads.

Once disconnected, the municipality says upfront payments of 10% must be paid, with pensioners and the vulnerable to pay 25% and 50%, respectively.

A 100% payment will apply to government offices, the private sector, and businesses.

The municipality further faces a bulk water supply disruption by NamWater.

It is now racing to pay N$31.6 million, following non-payments for the past nine months.

The amount represents 33.3% of the outstanding municipal debt of N$95 million owed to NamWater.
