Keilyn Durrel Jones Brings MJ’s Head of Security Bill Bray to Life in ‘Michael’ | WATCH

*The most anticipated film of the year, Michael, hit theaters this weekend, and fans have been thrilled to watch the King of Pop come to life through his nephew, Jaafar Jackson.

The biopic shines a light on the relationship between Michael Jackson and his head of security, Bill Bray. Bill first began working with Michael when he was a young boy in the Jackson 5. He remained by his side through the early years of his solo career. Their bond was so strong that Michael considered Bill a father figure, a sentiment that comes through clearly in the film.

We see moments of Michael having someone he could lean on and confide in when tensions rose between him and his father, Joe Jackson. Bill was someone Michael could simply be himself around. Playful, relaxed, and free from the weight of being Michael Jackson, the global icon.

I got a chance to speak with Keilyn Durrel Jones, who portrays Bill in the film. And he shared his thoughts on the relationship between Michael and Bill.

“He (Bill) was like a safe haven somewhere where Michael could be himself. He didn’t have to be an entertainer,” said Keilyn Durrel Jones.

As Jones said, even as iconic as Michael was, he was still a man. The film does an excellent job of showing moments of Michael’s vulnerability and humanity. While watching Jaafar’s performance, you are reminded of all the pressure Michael endured in becoming the greatest pop star of ALL time.

Maybe the spirit of Michael Jackson was present in his nephew, because Jaafar delivered an outstanding performance. Jones also spoke to Jaafar’s dedication during filming.

“He had never danced or acted ever before in his life. So, he trained for over two years to even be considered for the role. He really put in the work, and it shows,” Keilyn Durrel Jones told us.

More than just a biopic, Michael invites audiences into the private world of one of the most celebrated artists in history. It gives viewers access to intimate, sacred moments of Michael’s life that the public had never seen before. Allowing fans to witness not just the superstar, but the human being behind the legend.
