*La Toya Jackson is pushing back against speculation of tension within the Jackson family, specifically rumors involving siblings Janet Jackson and Jermaine Jackson.
Reports have suggested the two disagreed over the new biopic “Michael” following a family screening in Los Angeles, where Janet is said to have been highly critical of various elements of the film, including performances and overall execution, according to attendees. Jermaine reportedly disagreed with her reaction and viewed the project more positively alongside other family members, Us reports.
Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of “Michael,” La Toya said there was “absolutely no problem whatsoever” and urged the public to “please believe it.” She also confirmed that Janet chose not to participate in the biographical film about their late brother, saying the decision was respected by the family despite hopes for broader involvement.
La Toya explained that Janet had been invited to be part of the project but ultimately stepped away. “I wish everybody was in the movie,” she said, adding, “She was asked and she kindly declined so you have to respect her wishes.”
The film centers on the life of music icon Michael Jackson, with his nephew Jaafar Jackson portraying him on screen. The production also features portrayals of key family members and figures, including the Jackson 5, who shaped his personal and professional journey.
Jackson’s estate has financial involvement in the project, with Prince Jackson serving as an executive producer. However, his sister Paris Jackson has been critical of the film, saying in a social media video that it includes “a lot of inaccuracies” and “a lot of full blown lies.”
“The film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy. And they’re going to be happy with it,” she said.
Despite differing opinions within the family, La Toya offered strong praise for the production. She described “Michael” as “fabulous” and said Jaafar Jackson delivered an “absolutely fantastic” performance.
