*A major anniversary celebration is bringing Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean back together onstage in Brazil next month for a special Global Citizen event, Billboard reports.
The performance is scheduled for June 6 on Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro and will mark 30 years since the release of The Score by The Fugees. The free, ticketed concert is part of Global Citizen’s inaugural Rio Nature & Climate Week initiative, which centers on environmental and civic action. The event will feature music and programming tied to broader social impact goals, with attendance tied to participation through Global Citizen’s engagement campaigns.
Originally released in 1996, “The Score” became a defining moment in hip-hop, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album went on to win Best Rap Album at the 1997 Grammy Awards and later achieved six-times platinum certification. Its tracklist included major hits such as “Ready or Not,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “Fu-Gee-La.”
Wyclef Jean, who also serves as Global Citizen ambassador, described the reunion as a chance to honor the album’s lasting influence. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate 30 years of The Score than taking action to make the world a better place, together with the beautiful people of Rio de Janeiro,” he said.
Not all members of the group will be present. Pras Michel will not take part in the performance as he is currently serving a prison sentence following a federal conviction on charges including money laundering and conspiracy-related offenses.
The Rio lineup will also include additional performers such as YG Marley, Zion Marley, and Brazilian artist Ludmilla, who will co-headline the event.
Tickets for the free event must be earned through the Global Citizen app, WhatsApp engagement, or local volunteering initiatives. Visit globalcitizen.org for more information.
