Not even a bitter winter gale could stop the Rosendal community from showing up for their pets during Cluny Animal Trust’s latest outreach!
Rosendal, South Africa (15 May 2026) – It wasn’t just cold, it was freezing! But the pet owners of Mautse and Rosendal were determined to get their furry companions the care they needed, braving the elements without hesitation.
Although the weather apps predicted cold days with sunny skies over the past weekend –which the Cluny Animal Trust could handle– what they didn’t predict was the cold wind that awaited them at their latest rural outreach in Rosendal.
“It takes a lot of effort to plan every single outreach that we do, but one thing we can’t ever control is the weather. While the weather certainly made things challenging, especially for the team working outside Daisy [their vehicle], they soldiered on and never complained once,” the Cluny Animal Trust team shared.
The team’s dedication to animal welfare, regardless of the conditions, was truly inspiring. By the end of the outreach, they had achieved remarkable results:
- 37 Sterilisations: Primarily female dogs and cats.
- 243 Rabies Vaccinations: Ensuring community safety.
- 197 General Vaccinations: To boost overall pet health.
- 175 Dewormings: Promoting internal wellness.
- 253 Parasite Treatments: Protecting against ticks and fleas.

“Sadly, we also treated six sick dogs for a variety of issues and started the treatment of three cases of mange, which we have not seen in quite some time. We also saw a lot of very skinny dogs, who were all in a terrible condition, and we spent a lot of time on education with the owners. We will be going back to the area soon to follow up on all of these cases in particular.”
The Cluny Animal Trust extended a heartfelt thank you to its amazing team of volunteers: Dr Greta, Madi, Dibuseng Sara Ndaba, Jabulani, Charlotte Gous, Seipati, and Riandi. Special appreciation was also shared for Bonni and the team at The Rosendal Country Retreat, who provided wonderful accommodations. The Davies Foundation Trust, whose generous sponsorship made the weekend possible. The dedicated pet owners, who braved the elements to ensure their animals received essential veterinary care and support.

“Bonni also went above and beyond by arranging for the community to assist with all our meals during the outreach. This kindness, generosity, and support truly kept our team going, and we are so grateful to each and every person who contributed.”
For the Cluny team, this outreach weekend was a powerful reminder of why these programmes are so important. Beyond the numbers, it was about reaching animals and owners who desperately needed help, support and education.
“While we are encouraged by the impact made through sterilisation, vaccinations and treatments, we are also deeply aware of the ongoing challenges faced in the area, particularly the condition of many undernourished dogs and the re-emergence of mange cases. We remain committed to continuing our work in the community of Mautse, Rosendal and will be returning soon to follow up on the animals requiring ongoing care and to further support responsible pet ownership.”
