A tropical wave to the east of Barbados has the potential to generate significant rainfall and flash-flooding as it begins moving over the island tonight, and as a result, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a flash-flood watch
The wave has been generating significant rainfall and thunderstorm activity just off the island throughout the day. As this feature nears Barbados tonight, similar activity will become possible over the island, which could generate flooding across low-lying areas.
Unstable conditions are predicted to peak near midnight with the potential for significant rainfall lasting into the morning.
A Flash-Flood Watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall could result in the possibility of rapid flooding (generally within two hours). Flash-flood watches could be issued up to 48 hours in advance, but it does not mean that flooding will occur.
This Flash-Flood Watch was issued at 6 p.m. today and will be updated/terminated at 6 a.m. tomorrow, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
