Mike Tomlin Still Haunted By Derrick Henry? His Latest Comments Have Fans Laughing
Mike Tomlin hilariously avoided saying Derrick Henry’s name during NBC’s Ravens-Falcons pregame show, calling him “The Big Runner” instead.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may have moved on to his new role as an NBC Sports analyst, but his rivalry with the Baltimore Ravens is still alive.
During the pregame show for Baltimore’s “Sunday Night Football” matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, Tomlin caught viewers’ attention when he repeatedly avoided saying Ravens running back Derrick Henry’s name, instead referring to him as “The Big Runner.”
The nickname wasn’t meant as disrespect. In fact, it appeared to be Tomlin’s way of acknowledging just how much trouble Henry has caused his teams over the years.
With Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson sidelined by an ankle injury, Tomlin emphasized the importance of Baltimore leaning on its rushing attack.
Tomlin said the Ravens needed to “ride The Big Runner,” using the nickname two more times while discussing Baltimore’s offensive strategy.
NBC host Maria Taylor quickly jumped in to explain who Tomlin was talking about.
“He still will not say his name because he sends a shiver down his spine,” Taylor joked.
Tomlin later reposted the moment on social media, further acknowledging the running back’s impact.
And considering Henry’s history against Pittsburgh, it’s easy to understand why.
Across eight career games against Tomlin’s Steelers, including five with Baltimore and three with the Tennessee Titans, Henry averaged 102 rushing yards per game and recorded five touchdowns.
One of Henry’s most memorable performances came during Baltimore’s 28-14 Wild Card playoff victory over Pittsburgh in January 2025.
Henry dominated the Steelers’ defense, rushing for 186 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 7.2 yards per carry, helping send Pittsburgh home from the postseason.
Although Tomlin is no longer coaching against Henry twice a season, it appears the former Steelers coach hasn’t forgotten what it’s like trying to stop one of the NFL’s most powerful running backs.
