Namibians bow out of World Bowls Indoor Champs 

Namibia’s Waylon Wentzel and Huipie van Wyk both bowed out of the World Bowls Indoor Championships in Australia after completion of the group stages. 

Wentzel won one out of seven matches during the group stages, and Van Wyk one out of six matches.

Wentzel, who will represent Namibia at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with Kat Steenkamp, lost all three his opening matches by three match points on Tuesday, 12 May.

He lost to Putul Sonowal of India, to Shannon McIlroy of New Zealand, and to

Yong Min Mao of China.

On Wednesday he recorded his first win at the tournament after beating Tom Richeson of the United States by three match points, but then lost his next match by three match points against Adam McKeown of Ireland.

On Thursday, Wentzel lost by three match points to Parmeswan Padayachi of Fiji, and on Friday he lost by three match points to the defending world champion Jack McShane of Australia.

Van Wyk opened her account with two defeats on Tuesday, going down by three match points to both Tayla Bruce of New Zealand and Shauna O Neill of Ireland.

On Wednesday she lost by three match points to Giulia Gallo of the United States, but then recorded her first win when she beat Caroline Whitehead of the Isle of Man by three match points. 

On Thursday, she lost by three match points to Saki Takayama of Japan, and on Friday also lost by three match points to the defending champion Sophie McGrouther of Scotland. 

The tournament now continues with the knockout stages, but for both Wentzel and Van Wyk it is the end of the road.
