By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has issued a flood alert for portions of Belize following heavy rainfall that has already begun affecting several areas of the country.
According to NEMO’s latest information bulletin, flooding has been reported at the Soldier Creek Bridge, making the crossing inaccessible to small vehicles.
Officials have also reported flood debris along sections of the Hummingbird Highway, particularly between Mile 19 and areas beyond St. Augustine Village, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions for motorists.
NEMO says a flood alert remains in effect for central and southern Belize, warning that flooding can occur rapidly and with little warning as weather conditions remain unstable.
Residents living in low-lying communities and flood-prone areas are being urged to remain vigilant and be prepared to activate emergency plans if conditions worsen.
Persons living near rivers, creeks, and waterways are also being encouraged to closely monitor water levels and exercise extreme caution.
The warning comes as the Belize Meteorological Service continues to forecast additional showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain across much of the country.
Emergency officials say they will continue monitoring conditions and providing updates as necessary.
