Nigeria Football Mourns Again as Former NFF President Ibrahim Galadima Dies at 74

Nigerian football has been thrown into fresh mourning following the death of former Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Galadima, at the age of 74.

Galadima, who led the then Nigeria Football Association between 2002 and 2006, passed away on Saturday, according to reports.

His death marks another painful loss for the country’s football community, coming at a time the sport continues to reflect on the passing of several notable figures.

Widely admired for his leadership and service, Galadima played a major role in the growth of football administration in Nigeria.

Before becoming NFA president, he served as chairman of the Kano State Football Association from 1977 to 1979 and later headed the Kano State Sports Council between 1981 and 1983.

In 1984, he was appointed a member of the Caretaker Committee of the National Sports Commission.

Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusau, described Galadima’s death as a heavy blow to the nation’s sports family.

He said the late administrator mentored many current sports leaders and was known for dignity, hard work and integrity.

Gusau added that Galadima’s wise counsel and fatherly guidance would be greatly missed, while praying for strength for his family and the entire football community.

Born on June 14, 1951, in Kano, Galadima devoted much of his life to sports development and public service.
