THE City of Delta announced on Monday that it is bringing back the Mayor for a Day Contest—an exceptional behind-the-scenes opportunity for Delta youth to immerse themselves in a day of civic leadership alongside Mayor George V. Harvie.
To apply, Delta students in grades 5-7 are asked to complete a short form and answer the following question “Why do you want to be Mayor for a day?” Applications open Monday, April 20, and close on Monday, May 4. Two Delta students will then be chosen from among the applicants to experience a day at City Hall, and as Mayor for a Day, will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch with Mayor Harvie, tour City Hall, and attend the day’s events.
“Mayor for a Day is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get local youth engaged in their community,” said Harvie. “Experiences like these can inspire a lifetime of civic participation and I look forward to spending the day with this year’s participants as they learn more about our City and the people who keep it running.”
Students in grades 5 to 7 who live in Delta can apply online at: www.delta.ca/MayorForADay.
