If anyone knows the game when it comes to entrepreneurship, it’s music mogul Master P. The empire he spearheaded in the 1990s with No Limit Records set a standard on guerilla marketing in hip-hop and generational wealth by establishing his brothers, Silkk the Shocker and C-Murder, as well as his son, Romeo, into Platinum-selling stars in their own right.
He’s the perfect person to get pointers from on how to close the Black wealth gap.

The New Orleans legend gets real about investing in himself before anyone else would, including the $25,000 he spent with Michael Jackson’s attorney just to learn the details of an 85/15 distribution deal. That single decision changed the trajectory of his career and helped set the standard for independent hip hop entrepreneurship.
Master P also speaks directly to the Black wealth and ownership gap, pointing to the $2 trillion African Americans spend annually with little to no ownership in return. His message is clear: knowledge, ownership, and generational wealth-building have to start now. He shares why surrounding yourself with smarter people, using your 24 hours wisely, and thinking outside the box — especially in the AI era — are non-negotiables for anyone serious about building a legacy.
“When you’re trying to build generational wealth, you want to be around like-minded people; people that are smarter than you [sic],” Master P says when it comes to the oftentimes hard decision to cut off individuals who aren’t conducive to your success, also adding, “You shouldn’t be the smartest person in the room, because knowledge and information is turning around so quick.”
